one whole hand

and now this one's five. Five hit me much harder than three...this was the hardest birthday yet I think. Five is just big. His processing and logic, his verbal skills, his maturity (most of the time...ok, some of the time) and just size period. He's tall and strong. I just can't believe it's been Five whole years. Five years. Five. Crazy.

He started his day by watching his favorite lego-reenacting-german-metal video on youtube. C'mon, I know your 3 and 5 year olds no the lyrics to Rammstein, right?

Then it was a dentist appointment (yes, I'm the awesome mom that scheduled a dentist appointment on her son's birthday) where he told me to stay in the lobby...he could go in by himself :( He did amazing without me. I was a nervous wreck but he did fantastically well.

Then a trip to the grocery store to pick up the cake ingredients...he wanted "mamilla" cake with chocolate frosting (at least one tiny part of the day that affirmed that there's still a bit of little kid in him). Then Target to spend birthday money. Then lunch and home. Grandma and grandpa came over after dinner to sing and observe the annual blowing out of the candles.

It was a good day for young Jacob. Happy birthday to my big boy :)

Tomorrow, I'll share the story about last Friday...(I chose B - I did good!)

this one was really hard for me too.
i remember when my friends' sons turned 5...i thought that was so grown up. it is surreal to me to think that ours are this age already.
sounds like a wonderful day for the big jake.

  3. Well a very happy birthday Mr. Jake and a big hug for mom ;). I'm not an overly emotional mama when it comes to milestones, but birthdays are very hard for me. I get caught up in reflecting on how fast it's all going, how I'm starting to forget some of those early details, so then I frantically look for pictures and clues and then totally freak my husband out, promise myself I'll journal about ours days on a weekly basis ... go to bed teary and exhausted and then we're back to normal the next day, LOL!!!

All that to say I get it ;).

And hey, I think I need some modeling pics of the latest sweater completed (rusted root, right?) ... I'm still in awe that you've made two and they both look just as they should!

    hi Erica
I am so glad to how found your blog - I miss you sense of humor (as revisted here on your Thrusday Random post!).

Your boys are getting so big and so handsome.

Thanks so much for your card that you send before M's surgery - I think about that kind gesture often and then I realize how horrible I am at social graces that I never sent a thank you. Please know that it meant so much to me.

I am happy that I can reconnect through your blog.

    Take Care,
    Anne
